Produced by Juno award winning Connor Seidel (Charlotte Cardin, Matt Hollybowski, Half Moon Run) and Tim Buron (Coeur de Pirate, Nate Husser, Laraw), Julia flirts with pop-punk sensibilities and an immensely hooky chorus that laments a foolish kind of love that is bad for your health. LISTEN TO “JULIA” HERE “Julia is a headbanger for hopeless romantics,” says lead singer Kate Kurdyak. “It’s the most upbeat song we’ve ever released. It explores a relationship with someone (or something) that you know is bad for you, but you keep coming back for more.” As Vox Rea steps into the next chapter of their career, the band looks to broaden their musical horizons with this irresistible new anthem. Featuring unforgettable guitar hooks, a relentless pop-punk vibe, and substantial depth, sonically and lyrically, ‘Julia,’ stays true to Vox Rea’s signature dreamy aesthetic while raising the tempo to a danceable degree. The release will be followed by an acoustic version that harkens back to the band’s memorable folk sound and the standout blood harmonies that have been a hallmark of the band’s music since they started in 2015. The dual versions of Julia reflect their ability to fearlessly, fluently, and seemingly effortlessly incorporate elements of dream pop, pop punk, cinematic soundscapes and classical elements to create a genre-hopping sound that’s impossible to pigeonhole but uniquely their own. With over 2 million streams to their name and 400k views on YouTube, it’s easy to see why Vox Rea has been quoted as a band you “can’t miss” (Exclaim!). The sister duo (Kate and Lauren Kurdyak) have played across North America including slots at top tier music festivals Capitol Hill Block Party, Treefort Music Fest, and Laketown Shakedown and a headlining tour down the westcoast of the USA. Their music has appeared on various Spotify playlists including New Music Friday Canada, Indie All Stars,Indie Pop and Chill, Pop All Day, Hot Hits Canada, Indie Pop Chillout and the Canada Viral 50 chart, etc. Their single “Damn (Unstuck)” was featured on the cover of Folk & Friends and made Spotify’s Top Folk Songs of 2021. Their songs have been featured in various TV shows and commercials including an Orphan Black, Reboot, The Order and a Plenty of Fish commercial. Receiving praise from the likes of Vice, MTV, the Vancouver Sun, Exclaim!, the National Post and more the group were the recipients of CreativeBC’s Career Development Grant, Canada Council’s Research & Creation Grant and were chosen to be a part of RBCxMusic’s First Up Program. They have also worked closely with a number of local brands including a beer collaboration with Field House Brewing and campaigns for Huha, Charlie Beads and Lost Goodz. Vox Rea isn’t slowing down anytime soon as they head towards the end of an incredibly successful year. With new music on the horizon alongside a showcase at SXSW and a residency at the Banff Centre for Arts & Creativity, 2023 looks to be an even more promising year for the sister duo.
