A major development has been made in the high-profile case of missing Ontario woman Elnaz Hajtamiri. Authorities in Texas have arrested Sukhpreet Singh, a suspect linked to the violent attack Hajtamiri suffered in December 2021.
Former homicide detective Steve Ryan told reporters that Singh’s arrest is a significant step forward. While Singh is charged in connection with the earlier assault — when Hajtamiri was beaten with a frying pan in an underground parking garage — investigators are hoping his detention will lead to critical information about her disappearance a month later.
Hajtamiri, 37, vanished from a relative’s home in Wasaga Beach, Ontario, in January 2022. Police believe she was abducted by three men posing as police officers. Despite extensive searches and multiple arrests tied to both the attack and the abduction, her whereabouts remain unknown.
The arrest of Singh could help investigators piece together the timeline and connections between the suspects, potentially uncovering new leads in a case that has haunted the community for nearly three years.
As Ryan notes, Singh’s cooperation — or lack of it — could be pivotal in helping police finally answer the question that Hajtamiri’s family and Canadians across the country have been asking: What happened to Elnaz?
