Authentic Guyanese Curry Chicken with Lola Doll! 🇬🇾

Date:

Day 3 in Guyana came with spice, soul, and a whole lot of flavor. I had the absolute pleasure of spending the afternoon with none other than Lola Doll—local artist, cultural ambassador, and all-around powerhouse. From the moment I stepped into her vibrant home, I knew I was in for something special.

Lola welcomed me with warm vibes and a pot already bubbling on the stove. On the menu? A truly authentic Guyanese curry chicken (or chicken curry—however you swing it). With the perfect blend of garlic, onions, wiri wiri peppers, curry powder, and fresh herbs, the dish was a fragrant, rich masterpiece. She walked me through each step—sharing her grandma’s secrets, cooking tips, and a few hilarious stories along the way. The result? Tender, juicy chicken soaked in thick, spicy curry gravy. Served with soft roti and steamed rice, it was soul food at its finest.

But the magic didn’t stop there.

After lunch, we hit the studio where Lola gave me a sneak peek at her latest music. Her sound is a hypnotic blend of Afro-Caribbean rhythms and bold storytelling—raw, real, and full of heart. Sitting in that space, watching her work, I realized just how deeply Guyana flows through her veins, both in the kitchen and in the booth.

Lola Doll is more than just an artist—she’s a living embodiment of Guyanese culture. And if you ever get a chance to cook, eat, or vibe with her, take it. Trust me.
