Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Second Round between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers delivered playoff drama at its finest. Despite jumping to an early lead, the Maple Leafs couldn’t hold off the relentless push from Florida, who stormed back to claim a 5-4 overtime win on home ice.
Toronto came out strong, with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner setting the tone early. William Nylander continued his red-hot postseason form, tallying another goal and assist, giving the Leafs a commanding 4-1 lead midway through the second period. But just as it seemed Toronto would take a stranglehold on the series, the Panthers flipped the script.
Sam Reinhart ignited the comeback, scoring late in the second to bring the Panthers within two. Florida carried that momentum into the third, with goals from Matthew Tkachuk and Carter Verhaeghe tying the game 4-4. The Leafs struggled to match the intensity down the stretch, and the game was sent to overtime.
It was Brad Marchand — acquired at the deadline for exactly these moments — who played the hero. Just minutes into the extra frame, Marchand found the back of the net on a slick feed from Aleksander Barkov, capping off the Panthers’ stunning rally and giving them their first win of the series.
The Maple Leafs now lead the series 2-1, but the pressure is back on them heading into Game 4. Florida’s comeback reminds everyone that this series is far from over.
Final Score: Panthers 5, Maple Leafs 4 (OT)
