After receiving outstanding reviews from media and critics nationwide for their work on Justine Tyrell’s Debut EP While You Were Sleepingthe dynamic trio of vocalist, pianist, and producer – Justine Tyrell, Timothonius, and Matthew Zoteman, have resurfaced on the music scene with the announcement of their upcoming single “Drive”. The slow-tempo R&B track is set for release on all major streaming platforms on February 4th 2022 and is a part of Timothius’ upcoming debutEP release this spring. “Drive” – Justine Tyrell and Timothonius is the first time Timothonius has ever released a project with his name on the title. The in-demand producer and pianist’s EP will feature five songs performed by five different Calgary-based artists.

Justine plans to release her sophomore EP in the late summer of 2022.

Timothonius is an incredibly talented Canadian jazz pianist, music producer, composer. He is the bandleader of the HAVEN Vanguard Trio, and the man behind the “HAVEN Party” – an event which takes place every last Monday of each month at Koi. He studied Jazz Performance at Mount Royal University (2011-2013), as well as Composition & Electronic Production at Berklee College of Music (2013-2015). Along with his Inner Circle of performing artists, composers, and music producers, Timothonius aims to curate a new wave of “modern” music by merging the worlds of Jazz, Neo-Soul, and Hip-Hop with an electro-acoustic texture. His inspirations include Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, Nujabes, and Robert Glasper.

About “Drive”:

With its effortless blend of an addictive compilation of synths and rhythms, Drive is the perfect example of R&B at its best. The entire song details the unfolding of a less-than-perfect relationship with vocalist Justine Tyrell reminding her problematic partner that “it’s like we’re on automatic and we just drive each other away”.Timothonius and Matthew Zoeteman’s flawlessly modern production provide her with a beat so smooth and sensual you’re immediately captivated and Tyrell’s vocal capabilities make the most of it. The soulful tune ebbs and flows until ceasing dramatically to make way for piano accompaniment and Tyrell finally admitting “We’re broken and knew it all along”.

Quote from Justine

This song captures the moments of what is imminently the last drive taken with a flame, blaring with silences and the realization that the love has slipped away. The blurring of street lights and the tension of quiet gazes, fill the spaces of all of the words that are going unsaid. Intimately personal and inspired by the dark sonics of the production soundscape, Drive tells a story of how sometimes the loneliest places we go, are together.”

Biography:

Justine Tyrell has earned nominations for Singer of the Year, Solo Artist of the Year, Media Personality of the Year (Obsidian Awards), and has gone on to be named one of Branded Magazine’s ‘Game Changers, in her City of Calgary, Alberta’. She has been featured on CBC Radio, received nods from Stingray Music, featured in Metro and went on to see exciting success with the release of her recently released singles, “Worthy”, “Radar”, and “My Name”.

Her music chronicles the bitter and sweet tastes of love and relationships, and reflective diary-like moments– with a smoky unabashed, and unapologetic nature. Justine Tyrell creates a vibey and refreshing soundtrack, to suit listeners as they move through the moods of their own lives. Early on, Justine’s love of music was undeniable- growing up in an eclectic household around everything from R&B and Hip Hop, to Blues and Country. She wrote her first song at the age of 7, from the basement of their family’s small home in Calgary, AB – and describes music as being her first love, and way to process the world– starting with some of her earliest moments.

Always performing, learning as many instruments as she could get her hands on – and never missing an opportunity to recruit her young friends to join ‘the band’ – Justine was always certain that bringing music to people was what she wanted to do.

When asked about her largest influences and greatest musical memories growing up – she says it’s as somewhere between “discovering my first Aaliyah CD, crying to the first Amy Winehouse song I’d ever heard, scribbling down song ideas in the back of my journals– and the feeling I got when the hair stood up on end, at my first concert.” She concluded with how she started singing, writing and performing, because of how music naturally made her feel. Through music, she felt like she was never alone, always had a place to belong – and had something to capture her mood, or make a moment that much better. Now, she hopes to bring that very same feeling to her listeners, while giving them something of their own to get lost in.
