Feature Artist: KALICO DI KING
Canadian-based music sensation Kalico Di King is one of the countries preeminent talents who cross-pollinates Reggae and Dancehall with influences of Hip-Hop and R&B. His hybrid sound is a reflection of the mixed tastes of his fanbase.
Hailing from Toronto’s east end community of Malvern, Kalico Di King made a name for himself by writing lyrics in double entendre. While his words can be interpreted on a surface level, they can also be interpreted on a meaningful level. Songs such as “Tight Like” refers to a ladies physique while also referring to her ambition in education and life achievements. “Stress” demonstrates the effect of a breakup balanced by the ability for the heart to heal.
Reflecting the tastes of second and third generation North American-Caribbean fans, Kalico’s most notable release “Badmind,” tells the real-life tale of a youth who ran the streets and turned his life around. The relatable story addresses the issue of some people’s ‘badmind’ nature determined to stop the progress of another. The artists top streaming single is streaming on Spotify and YouTube with accompanying music video.
Kalico Di King is rated in the Top 20 for Canada’s pool of Caribbean talent. His newest single “Dogs Rich” is produced by Soul Survival Recordz. The single is distributed by VPAL Music, a subsidiary of VP Records. His yet-to-be-named EP is due for release March, 2023.
