In January of 2023, the tragic tale of Teba al-Ali emerged – a victim to her own father’s “honor killing”. This event sent shock waves across Iraq and beyond. Through this video we will reveal details about Teba’s life as an Iraqi who found fame on social media; tracing her journey from Turkey back into danger in Iraq that ultimately resulted in death. We aim to examine both cultural and legal factors contributing towards these horrific crimes alongside exploring public reaction following the tragedy while considering broader women’s rights issues within Iraq.
