The Toronto Maple Leafs have kept their Stanley Cup hopes alive with a gritty 2-0 victory over the Florida Panthers in Game 6 of the second round of the 2025 NHL Playoffs. Fueled by a dominant third-period performance and stellar goaltending, the Leafs have tied the series 3-3 and will return to Scotiabank Arena for a decisive Game 7.
The game was a classic playoff showdown, with both teams locked in a scoreless battle through two periods. Florida goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky and Toronto’s netminder Ilya Samsonov were both dialed in, matching each other save for save. But the Leafs would finally break through in the third.
Auston Matthews, who had been relatively quiet in the series, delivered the first blow with a clutch goal early in the final frame, giving Toronto the momentum they desperately needed. Just minutes later, Max Pacioretty found the back of the net with a snipe that sealed the deal and sent Leafs Nation into a frenzy.
While the offense delivered in crunch time, it was the defensive effort that truly stood out. Toronto limited Florida’s high-danger chances and kept the Panthers off the scoreboard for the full 60 minutes. Samsonov recorded a 29-save shutout, arguably his best performance of the postseason thus far.
The series now shifts back to Toronto for what promises to be a thrilling Game 7. With momentum on their side and home-ice advantage, the Leafs are in a strong position — but the Panthers have shown resilience all series long.
Can Toronto finally advance to the Eastern Conference Finals? Or will Florida spoil the party yet again?
