The Toronto Maple Leafs continued their dominant postseason run with a thrilling 5-3 win over the Florida Panthers in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Second Round, taking a 2-0 series lead and putting themselves in a strong position heading into the next games in Sunrise.
William Nylander, once again, proved to be the x-factor for the Leafs, staying red-hot with another impactful performance. Nylander opened the scoring and added a crucial assist, continuing his outstanding playoff showing that has made him one of Toronto’s most reliable postseason performers.
The Panthers responded with intensity, and Anton Lundell delivered a crucial goal in the third period to tie the game at 3-3, igniting hopes of a comeback. But just seconds later, Mitch Marner crushed that momentum with a perfectly timed shot that beat Sergei Bobrovsky and stood as the game-winner. Marner’s goal was a dagger that silenced Florida’s push and reasserted Toronto’s control over the game.
Matthew Knies and Morgan Rielly also found the scoresheet for the Leafs, contributing key goals that showcased the team’s scoring depth. Joseph Woll, starting again between the pipes, held steady despite a late Panthers surge, finishing the game with 28 saves.
For Florida, Sam Reinhart and Matthew Tkachuk each tallied assists and kept up the physical pressure, but they couldn’t overcome Toronto’s timely scoring and defensive resilience.
The series now shifts to Florida, where the Panthers will look to rally at home and avoid going down 3-0. But with Toronto clicking on both ends of the ice, the Leafs are clearly in the driver’s seat.
