Padres vs. Blue Jays Game Highlights (5/20/25) | MLB Highlights

Date:

Baseball fans were treated to a thrilling interleague showdown on May 20, 2025, as the San Diego Padres clashed with the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. The game featured electric plays, standout performances, and a back-and-forth intensity that had fans on the edge of their seats from the first pitch to the final out.

The Blue Jays came into the matchup looking to bounce back after a tough series against the Detroit Tigers, and they certainly came to play. Toronto’s lineup showed flashes of power and precision, with Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. once again proving why they are among the league’s most dangerous hitters. Guerrero opened up the scoring early with a booming double that drove in two runs, giving the Jays an early edge and firing up the home crowd.

On the mound, Toronto’s starting pitcher José Berríos delivered a gritty performance. While he gave up a couple of key hits to the Padres’ sluggers—including a solo shot by Fernando Tatis Jr.—he kept the damage to a minimum and exited the game after six solid innings. The bullpen held strong with timely strikeouts and clutch defense, sealing the win down the stretch.

The Padres, on the other hand, didn’t go down without a fight. Manny Machado had a multi-hit game, and Xander Bogaerts came up big in the seventh inning with a two-run single that tied the game momentarily. However, San Diego’s bullpen couldn’t keep Toronto’s offense at bay in the later innings, as the Blue Jays surged ahead in the eighth with a rally sparked by a clutch single from Daulton Varsho.

One of the highlights of the night came defensively, as Kevin Kiermaier made a diving catch in center field that robbed the Padres of a potential game-changing extra-base hit. Plays like that reminded fans why Kiermaier remains one of the elite defensive outfielders in the game.

Final score: Blue Jays 6, Padres 4

Toronto continues to build momentum as they inch closer to the top of the AL East standings. Meanwhile, the Padres will look to regroup as they head further into a tough road stretch.

This game was a perfect showcase of why interleague play can be so exciting. With big names, big moments, and playoff-like intensity, the Blue Jays vs. Padres matchup on May 20th was a night to remember.
