The Florida Panthers bounced back in a big way in Game 4 of the second round, shutting out the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-0 on May 11, 2025. With the series now tied at 2-2, the battle between these two Eastern Conference powerhouses is heating up — and Sergei Bobrovsky was at the center of the action.
Bobrovsky delivered a masterclass in goaltending, stopping all 22 shots he faced to earn a shutout and keep the Leafs off the scoreboard for the first time in the postseason. His calm, composed play was the backbone of Florida’s defensive game plan, and he was especially sharp during a critical second-period penalty kill.
Carter Verhaeghe opened the scoring early in the second with a well-placed wrist shot that beat Ilya Samsonov high glove side. That goal ultimately proved to be the game-winner, as the Leafs struggled to generate high-danger chances against Florida’s disciplined defensive structure.
Toronto’s offense, which had been clicking in previous games, appeared stifled. Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner were largely neutralized, and the Leafs failed to establish a consistent net-front presence. Despite a few strong pushes in the third period, the Leafs couldn’t solve Bobrovsky.
An empty-netter by Matthew Tkachuk sealed the victory late in the third, sending the home crowd into a frenzy and shifting momentum back to the Panthers ahead of a pivotal Game 5.
Both teams now head back to Toronto for what promises to be a crucial turning point in the series. The Maple Leafs will need a response — especially from their top stars — if they hope to regain control.
