In a dramatic showdown at Rogers Centre, the Boston Red Sox edged out the Toronto Blue Jays in a 6-4 victory on April 30, 2025. This game had all the makings of a classic AL East battle—early momentum swings, timely hits, and late-inning fireworks.
The Blue Jays jumped out to an early lead thanks to a two-run homer from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the first inning. Toronto’s offense looked sharp, with Bo Bichette and George Springer each contributing multi-hit games. Starting pitcher José Berríos held his ground through five innings, striking out six and allowing just two runs.
However, the Red Sox weren’t going down quietly. In the top of the seventh, Boston capitalized on a pair of defensive miscues and loaded the bases. Masataka Yoshida then delivered a clutch bases-clearing double that turned the game around, giving Boston a 5-4 lead. Alex Verdugo added insurance in the ninth with an RBI single.
Boston’s bullpen was rock-solid in the late innings, with closer Kenley Jansen slamming the door in the ninth to earn his eighth save of the season.
Toronto fans were left frustrated by their team’s missed opportunities with runners in scoring position, especially in the bottom of the eighth, when they failed to capitalize with the bases loaded.
Despite the loss, the Blue Jays continue to show offensive depth and competitive grit. With the series continuing tomorrow, both teams remain in a tight race in the division, making every game count.
