The Crime Ridden Stories of Toronto’s JUNGLE | Lawrence Heights

Date:

Lawrence Heights, also known as “The Jungle,” is a neighborhood in Toronto that has unfortunately been associated with crime and violence. In 2019, there were two weeks of back-to-back shootings in the area that left many residents concerned and questioning whether there was a war happening in their community.

The shootings were believed to be gang-related, with rival groups clashing over territory and control of the drug trade in the neighborhood. The violence escalated quickly, leading to multiple injuries and fatalities.

Many residents felt scared and unsafe in their own neighborhood, with some even considering moving away to escape the violence. Community leaders and police worked together to try and address the root causes of the violence, including poverty, lack of opportunities for young people, and easy access to guns.

Ultimately, it is unclear if there was an actual “war” happening in Lawrence Heights during those two weeks of back-to-back shootings. However, the incidents highlighted the ongoing struggles faced by residents in marginalized communities and the need for more support and resources to prevent further violence.
