A tragic Toronto case has come to a close as Roshayin Kesavan was sentenced to five years in prison for impaired driving causing the death of his best friend, Adhavan Shurenthiran.
The fatal crash happened in November 2022 in Toronto, and on April 1, Kesavan was officially found guilty of impaired driving causing death. During sentencing, it was revealed that Kesavan’s blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit — at least 175 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.
According to court reports, the judge determined that Kesavan showed little responsibility for his actions on the night of the crash, despite the devastating loss of life and the pain caused to both families.
The heartbreaking case serves as another reminder of the real consequences of drinking and driving — a split-second decision that led to years of regret, loss, and prison time.
